Start at the beating heart of Yerevan. Designed by Alexander Tamanyan, this grand square is lined with stately government buildings faced in warm pink tuff stone. Hear how it evolved from a Soviet centerpiece to the stage of modern revolutions and celebrations. Snap photos by the musical fountains and take in the pulse of the capital.
From Republic Square, we head up Northern Avenue, a bustling pedestrian promenade filled with shops, street art, and the buzz of modern Yerevan. This sleek walkway connects past and present, a symbol of Armenia’s ongoing transformation.
Arriving at the elegant Opera House, you’ll learn about Yerevan’s proud artistic heritage and its role as the cultural capital of the region. Across from it, Swan Lake offers a peaceful view and a popular gathering spot where locals stroll, artists perform, and skaters practice tricks by the water.
Yerevan’s modern icon, the Cascade is a massive outdoor staircase built into the hillside, offering panoramic views of the city and Mount Ararat in the distance. Each level features fountains and sculptures from the Cafesjian Center for the Arts. Walk the steps or take the escalator, then enjoy a moment at the top to take it all in.
Along the way, we’ll take a brief detour to a little known courtyard or hidden Soviet mosaic, a quiet gem tucked into the city’s everyday life that most tourists miss.
Pause at a charming café for a cup of Armenian coffee or apricot juice. Whether seated streetside or tucked into a courtyard, it’s a great way to connect, chat, and refuel.
Wrap up with a visit to Vernissage, the open air market where you can browse handmade crafts, wood carvings, ceramics, and Soviet era curiosities. It’s the perfect place to pick up meaningful souvenirs while supporting local artists.
